Three provincial championships coming to area

Woodington Lake Golf Club (shown) will be the site for the Ontario Disabilities Championship and the Ontario Open - a PGA Tour Canada event - this season.


Three Ontario amateur championships, six qualifying events and a PGA Tour Canada tournament will be played in the BruceGreySimcoe region this season.

The Ontario Disabilities Championship is scheduled for Aug. 25-26 at Woodington Lake Golf Club near Tottenham and the Senior Women’s Championship Aug. 26-28 at Midland Golf and Country Club. The third provincial championship is the Ontario Women’s Four-Ball event on Sept. 19 at Settlers’ Ghost Golf Club in the Horseshoe Valley area of Simcoe.

Three local qualifiers have already taken place -  the Ontario Men’s and Senior Men’s Match Play Championship qualifier at Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club May 12, the Ontario Mid-Amateur Championship qualifier at Cobble Beach Golf Links May 16 and the Ontario Men’s and Senior Men’s Match Play Championship qualifier at Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club May 26.

Upcoming qualifiers are:
June 5 – Ontario Junior Boys Championship qualifier at Batteaux Creek Golf Club near Collingwood.
June 5 - Ontario Men’s Amateur qualifier at Batteaux Creek
June 30 – Ontario Junior Boys Match Play qualifier at Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club.

Another big tournament coming to BGS is the PGA Tour Canada’s Ontario Open, which will be held July 28-31 at Woodington Lake Golf Club in Tottenham. The tour, which began in 2013 as the PGA TOUR’s second International Tour, has seen 14 of its alums win 16 PGA TOUR titles, while 46 past PGA TOUR Canada players have collected 49 total Korn Ferry Tour victories.
