Men’s League May 29
Fairway to Heaven (359) wins this week's contest. A pair of gross 35s by Chase Amyot and Mike McManus, plus a tidy Net 32 by D.J. Selkirk, gave them an easy victory over Weapons of Grass Destruction.  The Low Gross scores were the determining factors as the Roughneckers (363) fought Steady Eddys (363) to a muddy draw and a weekly tie for second. Roughneckers remain in the overall season standings lead at 77 holding a 3 point lead over second place Steady Eddys.

Chad Currie won Low Gross with 33.
Among the Skins winners was Terry Duncan with an eagle on hole #7.

Jim Wilson won the 50/50 draw.

Pin Winners ($72 each): #1 LPM Brent Keeling (33'10"), #2 CTP Dave Gill (2'6"), #3 LPM Greg Millman (42') , #6 LPM Doug Sim (13'), #7 LPM Brent Keeling (14'6"), #8 CTP Jason Traynor (1'7"), #9 LPM Greg Millman (25'8").

May 22
Chad Currie, with his stand alone Low Gross 33, obviously enjoyed the receptive greens.  And Bill Graham and David Rowney must too have relished the conditions as they each shot the night's Low Net 32.

Talking about 'amazing results': it certainly was an amazing night for Bill Douglas who won the sole skin on #8, bagging the $120 prize plus the $20 "deuce'' money. Bill's achievement made possible by the failure of 39 of our best golfers in Flight +3 to 4 to birdie this relatively easy hole. Back pin placement notwithstanding.
Phil Rowe is reported to have sunk an amazing 55' putt on #8 for his deuce , to earn $78 in Flight 8-10.

Pin Results: #1 Corey Feenstra 24'3", #2 Glen Beale 5'6", #4 Jim Gardhouse 35'6", #5 David Rowney 21', #6 Bill O'Connor (Keg), #8 Neil Havens 7'11", #9 Roy Clements 12'1". Pins are worth $71.May Low Team

May 15
The Roughneckers, Birdie Boyz and Stan's Army all won their opening bouts Wednesday night. And whereas a score of 358 was low enough to give the  Ryan's team 'best in show', it is Lefty's Birdie Boyz who take a one point lead, by virtue of 'good attendance' in the season standings. Speaking of which: 104 scores were posted last night.

Andrew Baines' back nine 34, took Low Gross honours. Phil Carleton, Steve Irving and Michael Todd were one stroke back. Glen Beale and Brendon Haefling shared Low Net 32. And Dave Cruickshank's Net 33 and Neil Havens' 34 deserve  honourable mentions.

The Skins results are worth a word or two, especially Wim Kruisselbrink's 2 on #14 earning him $61.67 in the +3-4 flight. And Mike McManus achieving the same feat in the 5-7 flight to earn ten dollars less. Adam Barfoot has a $100 to spend for his solo 3 on the difficult #11 in the 8-11 flight.

PINS RESULTS: #10 Dave Gill (7'7"),  #12 Walter Biesiada (1'3"), #13*,  #14 Mike McManus (2'),  #15 The Keg: Gordon Kletzel (8'), #17 Neil Havens (2'10"), #18  Bill Corbett Jr. ( 39' 8")

Seniors League
A tie for 1st place in week 1 of Seniors League!  The Grip Rippers (captained by John Murdoch) and The Reigning Eagles (captained by Lloyd Stewart) both combined for 210 Stableford points.  The Rippers will add $2.57 to their credit book and the Eagles will add $2.83.

Southampton

Men’s Golf News

The Southampton Golf and Country Club opened the Men’s golf season with a team scramble tournament on May 11, and the course conditions were remarkably in fine shape.  We had a good turnout of players for this tournament in which four-man teams were formed based on team handicaps.  Each player on a team had to contribute at least 3 of their drives during the 18-hole round, and there were several bonus prizes for closest to the hole and longest putt.

One team must have been playing in a different frame of mind as the rest of the field, as the team captained by Peter Quigley with Brent, Barry Dicks and Chris Page scored a fantastic 65, seven under par.  Quigley said that everything went right during the round, including two chip-ins from his team and several long putts falling in the hole.  The Quigley team won first place for the tournament.  Three teams were tied for second place with scores of two under par 70.  Lou Bezaire broke the tie by drawing cards to determine the order or prize presentation, and when the cards were dealt, the team captained by Gerry Call with Lorne Lazenby, Dan Lazenby and Doug Wilson took second place.  The team captained by Bruce Towner with Bill Hatt, Rod Chisholm and Paul Nugent  took third prize followed by the team captained by Hugh Morrison with Barrie Robson, Fabian Libbus and Paul Leader in fourth spot.

Ron Wilson won the Closest to the Pin contest on the third hole, and Jim Norwood won the same competition on #5.  Doug Hamilton sunk the Longest Putt on #16.  The par 3 thirteenth hole green” was treated a bit differently.  Those who hit the green with their drives placed a ticket into a bucket, and those who missed the green deposited their tickets into another bucket.  A draw was made from each bucket, and Doug Hamilton won the “Hit the Green” draw while Dan Lazenby won the “Missed the Green” draw.

Regular Men’s Day began last Thursday, a nine hole competition where players can play at any time of the day.  This week, Gary Jeffries won First Low Gross, followed by Mike Pitzen.  Doug Hamilton won First Low Net, while Gord Moore took Second Low Net.

Senior Men’s Golf News

The Senior Men at Southampton Golf and Country Club opened their season with a scramble event on May 14.  Two teams were tied for First place with scores of two under par, 70.  The team captained by Mike Cleary with Rod Chisholm, Tom Underwood and Barry Dicks shared first place honours with the team captained by Bill Hatt with Peter Welford and Barry Jeffries.  The team captained by Derryl Urstadt with Bill Thomson, Ron Wilson and Harland Wake won Third place with a score of one under par 71.  Paul Leader sunk the Longest Putt on #16.

The regular Men’s Day competitions began on May 21.  The field was broken into two groups – those with established handicaps and those without established handicaps, new members for the most part, along with visitors playing as guests.  In the “Handicap” group, Peter Welford won First Low Gross with an eighteen hole score of 97.  John Hale won Second Low Gross with a 99, only two strokes back of first place.  Bill Thomson won First Low Net with a net score of 78. Followed by Jim Norwood and Peter Day, both with net scores of 81.

In the “No handicap” group, prizes were awarded for Gross scores only, and Kevin Dagnall took First Low Gross with a score of 93, followed by Tom Underwood with a 102.

Fabian Libbus sunk the Longest Putt on the seventh hole, while John Hale was closest to the Pin on #5.

Ladies Golf News

The Southampton Ladies league opened the season with an eighteen hole team scramble competition on May 14.  The winning team was comprised of Roma Rolfe, Terry Kennedy and Janette Hamilton.  Regular Ladies Day began on May 21.
