Drew Nesbitt places 6th at Regional Qualifier

Shanty Bay golfer has shot at Canadian Open

Drew Nesbitt of Shanty Bay Golf Club near Barrie is among the golfers with a shot at playing in the Canadian Open this summer.

He advanced to the final qualifier for the PGA Tour event after shooting 71 and tying for 6th at a Regional Qualifier on Monday.

The event, held at Blue Springs Golf Club in Acton, featured a field of 138 golfers.

Also in the field were three other golfers from Shanty Bay, a 27-hole club near Barrie, Ont. Amateur Brady Zordan shot 76 and tied for 43rd, pro Branson Ferrier shot 78 and tied for 56th and amateur Matt Lemay shot 83 and tied for 107th.

The low qualifier at each site receives an exemption directly into the RBC Canadian Open field, provided a minimum of 100 competitors participate at each site.

The top 15% of finishers, beyond the low qualifier, at each regional qualifying competition are eligible to compete at Final Qualifying.

The low qualifier at the Blue Springs event was Matt Hill of Forest, who fired a 67.

Nesbitt will head to Heron Point Golf Links in Ancaster on July 24 for the final qualifier where a minimum of 4 spots will be available.

The Canadian Open will be held July 27-30 at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville.
