Local pros compete in Bermuda

Several Grey-Bruce area pros are competing this week in the Nike Golf PGA Team Championship of Canada at Bermuda’s Mid-Ocean Club.

The top result turned in among the local pros on Tuesday was a tie for 16th in the four-ball format by a team that included Thomas Keddy and Conrad Riley of the Collingwood-area OslerBrook Golf Club.

The other team members were Phil McCluskey of Dinosaur Trail G & CC and Quinn Powell of Country Hills GC. They shot 67.

One stroke behind and in a tie for 23rd was a team that included G.W. King of the Academy at Georgian Bay Club near Thornbury.

The other team members were Wayne Middaugh of Port Carling G & CC, Glen Mills of Assinibone GC and Dean North of Carmen GC.

The other local pro in the competition is Steven Pretty of Batteaux Creek GC near Collingwood, whose team finished tied for 45th after shooting 73.

The other team members were Sean Casey and Brad Kinvig of The ClubLink Academy at Glen Abbey and John Cochrane of John E.S. Cochrane Golf Schools.

Saskatchewan’s Dean Brown and Pat Marcia of Royal Regina Golf Club, and Eric Laporte and Philippe Mongeau of Quebec lead the 47-team pack after shooting a 9-under-par 62.

Today’s round involves a foursome format, while the final round is a scramble.

The winning squad will take home $12,000 of the $90,000 purse.
