Saugeen 7th at Senior Ryder Cup


Saugeen Golf Club tied for 7th at the Senior Ryder Cup Championship, which was held at Highland Country Club’s Stanley Thompson-designed course in London, Ontario.

The SGC team collected 12 points in the matches while the winning team from Cutten Fields in Guelph (pictured above) scored 21 of a possible 24 points.

The winning squad was followed closely by Lookout Point with 19 points with London Highland and North Halton (Georgetown) each earning 18 points.
 
Saugeen wasn’t the only team from BruceGreySimcoe in the 16-team competition as Shanty Bay Golf Club near Barrie also qualified for the championship.

The Shanty Bay team collected 10 points and finished tied for 10th.

Members of the Cutten Team included Rick Ludlow (Captain), John Buzanis, Peter Buzanis, Pat Morris, Frank Morris, John Pate, Tom Cox and Bob Armstrong.
 
This is Cutten Fields second win in the event having been successful in the 2010 finals. In addition to the championship trophy, team members won customized Senior Ryder Cup Callaway golf bags.

During the 2017 Senior Ryder Cup season, from May to August, over 800 matches were contested that saw 16 teams qualify for the Championship Day. 
Originating in 1999, the not-for-profit Senior Ryder Cup has become Canada's largest senior team competition. In 2017, there were 100 GAO clubs participating with more than 1200 players. (www.seniorrydercup.com)

The 2018 championship is scheduled for Saugeen Golf Club near Port Elgin on Sept. 13-14.

In preparation for the event Saugeen is holding a “Senior Masters” touranment this year on Sept. 18.

The event is for Senior Male Golfers 55 years of age and older as at September 18, 2017.
It includes:

  • 8:30-10:30 Registration and Breakfast in the Clubhouse
  • 8:30 Practice Range Open
  • 11:00 Shotgun Start
  • At the turn Takeout Lunch provided
  • 4:00 – 5:30 Hors D’oeuvres on the patios
  • 5:30 Dinner (jacket not required)
  • 6:30 Prizes
  • $150.00
  • 6 Age Groups 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, over 80.
  • Gross prizes only (Lots of prizes)
